From a “Hamlet” soliloquy to hot sounds from the clarinet and trumpet, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will spotlight faculty members in the Fine Arts Showcase at 7 p.m. on Aug. 21 in Howard Auditorium.  The public is invited to attend at no charge.

Dr. Susan Roe, Fine Arts Department Head and a Professor of Voice at ABAC, said the Showcase highlights new faculty members Dr. Zheng Jennifer Huang, assistant professor of piano and theory; Dr. Scott Phillips, assistant professor of jazz and theory; Dr. Rebecca J. Walenz, adjunct professor of trumpet; and Dr. Sara Eastwood, adjunct clarinet professor.

Roe is also scheduled to perform when she sings from the works of Giacomo Puccini and Franz Schubert. Dr. Brian Ray, professor of English and theatre will sing “Get Me to the Church on Time” from “My Fair Lady” and recite the “To Be or Not to Be” soliloquy from “Hamlet.”

Marti Braziel Schert, a coloratura soprano, will perform the music of George Frederick Handel and W. Amadeus Mozart accompanied by Huang, who will also perform a solo selection from Enrique Granados.

Eastwood on the clarinet and Phillips on the alto saxophone will combine their talents for “Ragahoro Breakdown.” Walenz will wrap up the evening with her trumpet solo version of “Centennial Horizon.”

Roe said the Showcase serves as a prelude to the 17th season of the First Tuesday Concert Series which begins on Oct. 2.

“First Tuesday concerts feature regional professional artists for everyone in our area to hear,” Roe said.  “The community supports us in so many ways, and these concerts are our gifts to the people.”
