ABAC Concert Band Presents Fall Concert at Tift Theatre on November 13th

Staff Report From Tifton CEO

Monday, November 5th, 2018

With an exciting opening number titled “Burn,” the Concert Band at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will blaze new trails when it stages its annual fall concert at 7 p.m. on Nov. 13 at the Tift Theatre in downtown Tifton. The public is invited to attend at no charge.

ABAC took over the operation of the Tift Theatre on July 1, and several ABAC events are scheduled for the facility this year.  In years past, the ABAC Concert Band has performed for two consecutive nights at ABAC’s Howard Auditorium to accommodate the crowd.

“We encourage everyone to arrive early because seating continues to be limited despite our move to the Tift,” Concert Band Director Johnny Folsom said.   “It’s going to be a very special night, and the admission is free.  Get there early to get a good seat.”

Folsom said the concert opens with “Burn,” a song that was written for the prestigious Dallas Wind Symphony.  It was composed by Roland Barrett, one of the most prolific composers of band music today.

The concert continues with Robert Sheldon’s breathtaking composition, “Visions of Flight.”  Then composer Kenley Kristofferson explores how we all fit into the tread of life as the band plays “Filum Vitae.”

No ABAC Concert Band performance would be complete without a John Philip Sousa tune, so the band will perform one of Sousa’s outstanding marches, “Gallant Seventh.”  The band will then play Dutch composer Jacob de Haan’s beautiful musical picture of the region of lower Germany, “Ammerland.”

The concert continues with a dramatic Robert Longfield composition, “And the Mountains Echoed: Gloria!”  The evening concludes with Claude T. Smith’s exciting arrangement of the hymn, “Praise to The Lord, The Almighty” titled “Intrada: Adoration and Praise.”
