Game Night at ABAC’s Georgia Museum of Agriculture on May 10th

Staff Report From Tifton CEO

Monday, April 15th, 2019

Step back in time for an evening of friendly games, brain-teasing trivia, and delightful refreshments at the Historic Games and Trivia program from 7-9 p.m. on May 10 at the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village.

The program draws on the likeness of the once popular door-step party which involved friends and neighbors gathering on one family’s doorstep or porch to engage in conversation, games, and refreshments.

“Guests of the Historic Games and Trivia program will learn how friends and families of the late 19thcentury came together for evenings of amusement and fun,” Museum Historic Village Supervisor Gina Beckman said.  “We’ll focus on how games were able to bring rural communities closer together.”

The event will take place in the heart of the Historic Village at the Gibbs House and surrounding lawn area. It will feature several game stations for guests to enjoy, with recognizable activities such as Biographical Nonsense, similar to Mad Libs, a historic take on charades with Comical Historical Tableaux, and a nod to Heads-Up in the Assumed Characters game. Following the games, guests will have the chance to test their knowledge of Georgia history and answer trivia questions for a chance to win prizes.

“Historic Games and Trivia offers guests a chance to enjoy a spring evening outdoors in a fun, family friendly atmosphere playing games popular at the turn of the 19th century,” Beckman said.

Historic Games and Trivia is the second in the 2019 “History After Dark” program series which provides guests of all ages the opportunity to experience the Museum after hours. The series features evening programs throughout the year on a variety of topics and immersive activities.

Tickets for the event are $10 per person and are now available for purchase online at www.purplepass.com/historicgames and at the Museum’s Country Store.  Tickets may be purchased in person or over the phone at the Country Store.
