State Charter Schools Commission Welcomes Buzz Brockway & Hunter Hill as New Commissioners

The State Charter Schools Commission of Georgia (SCSC) welcomes two new commissioners this month, former State Representative Buzz Brockway and former State Senator Hunter Hill. The SCSC is governed by a board of seven commissioners who are nominated by the the Governor (three seats), the Lieutenant Governor (two seats) and the Speaker of the House of Representatives (two seats) and appointed by the State Board of Education. Commissioner Brockway was nominated to the SCSC by Speaker David Ralston and Commissioner Hill was nominated to the SCSC by Governor Brian Kemp. The State Board of Education considered the nominees at their June meeting and appointed Commissioners Brockway and Hill to the SCSC.

Commissioner Buzz Brockway is the Vice President of Public Policy for the Georgia Center for Opportunity, an independent think tank dedicated to creating opportunities for a quality education, fulfilling work and a healthy family life for all Georgians. A graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, Commissioner Brockway championed charter schools and educational access while serving in the Georgia House of Representatives. He resides in Buford with his wife and three daughters.  

Commissioner Hunter Hill is the Director of Advisor Development for SignatureFD Wealth Management. Commissioner Hill served in the Georgia State Senate from 2013-2017 where he advocated for quality school choice options for Georgia students. A former Captain in the United States Army and a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, he resides in Smyrna with his wife and two children. 
 

The SBOE also accepted the recommendation of Governor Kemp to reappoint Commissioner Carmen Dill and the recommendation of Speaker Ralston to reappoint Commissioner Jose Perez. Commissioner Dill is a Culinary Arts teacher in Carrollton and is serving her second term on the SCSC. Commissioner Perez is the leader of Target Market Trends, a business consulting firm. Commissioner Perez has served on the SCSC since 2013.
