Springtime spells fresh air, warmer weather, and a chance to enjoy the great outdoors out on the golf course.  Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College can make that happen for you on March 16 at the Second Annual Supporters’ Tournament at ABAC’s Forest Lakes Golf Club. The tournament begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start in a scramble format consisting of four-person teams.

“We played this tournament in the fall last year, but we are shifting the annual event to occur in March,” Forest Lakes Golf Course Superintendent Austin Lawton said.  “All profits will be used internally for the betterment of the course.”

Lawton said space is limited for this event.  The cost is $60 per person or $225 for a four-person team.  Mulligans will be available for purchase. Lunch will be provided.  Participants will compete for prizes in longest drive and closest to the pin.

“Lunch will be sponsored by Hunter Industries,” Lawton said.  “Prizes will be gift cards and provided by Hunter and Ewing Irrigation.”

Sponsors can participate at three different levels including a $750 Platinum Hole sponsorship which includes the entry fee for four participants; a $600 Gold Hole sponsorship which includes the entry fee for two participants; and a $500 Silver Hole sponsorship.

“Hunter Industries and Ewing Irrigation are the two anchor sponsors for the event,” Lawton said.  “Hunter has provided over $100,000 in irrigation materials and services, and Ewing has donated irrigation supplies as well as providing complimentary service technician work.”

To participate in the tournament, interested persons can contact Deidre Martin, Director of College Advancement, at (229) 391-4907.  Checks should be made payable to the ABAC Foundation or call (229) 391-4897 with a credit card payment.  Lawton said the ABAC Foundation also accepts donations which will go toward improving the course.
