Singer, songwriter, and actor Jonathan Blanchard will deliver a “Musical” journey celebrating African-American history on Feb. 19 in Howard Auditorium at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.  The noon performance will be open to the public at no charge.

A two-part information session titled “Then and Now” will be held in Bowen 100 at 5 p.m. on Feb. 19.  This program will present contributions and inventions of African-Americans to the United States.

To close the program, a panel discussion will be held to discuss the wholeness of student experiences in the present setting. A reception will follow the panel discussion.  Both the discussion and the reception will be open to all students, faculty, and staff.

ABAC students can also participate in the Black History Essay Contest. This contest will consist of an essay containing 1,500 to 2,000 words responding to the prompt, “What would Dr. King see as the biggest social justice issue today? How can society address it?”

Entries must be typed in Modern Language Association format and submitted to the Dean of Students at [email protected] by Feb. 13 at noon. The judges will select the best essay, and the winner will receive a $100 Stallion Shop gift certificate.

ABAC Dean of Students Bernice Hughes said the winner will be notified by Feb. 18 at noon. The winner of the essay contest will be presented during intermission of the “Musical” performance on Feb. 19.

Students can use their regular meal plan or purchase lunch tickets to enjoy “A Feast of Ethnic Foods” in the Donaldson Dining Hall at noon on Feb. 20.  Entertainment will be provided by the ABAC Jazz Ensemble as students experience Diaspora food culture.
