Cancer patients in Fitzgerald will now be able to receive treatments much closer to home through a partnership with Dorminy Medical Center (DMC) Oncology and the Tift Regional Medical Center (TRMC) Anita Stewart Oncology Center.

“We are excited to be able to partner with Tift Regional and the Anita Stewart Oncology Center,” said DMC CEO/Chief Nursing Officer Stacie Mims. “This allows us to take advantage of the talented and dedicated teams at both locations and provide much needed treatments at a more convenient location for those in the Fitzgerald area.”

Cancer patients will initially meet with an oncologist at the TRMC Anita Stewart Oncology Center in Tifton, where they will have a team of specialists who understand the nuances of each type of cancer and work to develop an individualized treatment plan. The TRMC Anita Stewart Oncology Center providers will also offer education on the latest cancer research and preventative measures, so patients can make informed treatment decisions. All patients will have an individualized treatment plan designed for them by the oncology team that highlights their specific needs with blood disorders and cancers.

Patients can then have their chemotherapy/infusion treatments scheduled at Dorminy Medical Center, administered by team of oncology-certified nurses and on-site pharmacists. Laboratory testing and radiology services will also be available at DMC, and a surgeon will be on staff to perform procedures such as port placements, biopsies, colonoscopies, and more.

“This partnership will allow us to better serve cancer patients who live in some of the outlying communities that we serve,” said Claire Byrnes, TRMC Senior Vice President, Ambulatory Services. “We are happy to partner with Dorminy Medical Center to ensure our patients in the Fitzgerald area don’t have to commute 30-40 minutes for regular treatments, while still allowing them to take advantage of the specialized team we have at the TRMC Anita Stewart Oncology Center. Innovations like this are part of our ongoing commitment to find ways in which we can improve care for patients in all of the 12 counties we serve.”
