The Georgia Power Foundation recently committed a $100,000 donation to support comprehensive wrap-around services for Families First, the state’s largest family and children’s services organization in metro Atlanta. The organization serves more than 16,000 families each year – approximately 48,000 individuals with stable housing, workforce readiness and training, and mental and physical health services.

With support from Georgia Power, the nonprofit will be able to expand its work by reconnecting fathers within the criminal justice system with their families, providing services to increase the resilience of caregivers with school-age children, and working with community leaders to mitigate gaps in economic empowerment.

This commitment also aligns with Georgia Power’s Social Justice Pillars of increasing economic empowerment by eliminating societal barriers and improving access to gainful employment, supporting community programs that stimulate learning that will lead to high-paying jobs, as well as case management and career advisement for fathers with current or prior involvement in the criminal justice system. 

Earlier this year, the company committed $75 million over five years to advance racial equity and social justice in our communities across the state. The social justice funding supports initiatives focused on education equity, criminal justice, and economic empowerment. The company’s investment is a part of the commitment by Southern Company, Georgia Power’s parent company, and its charitable foundations to invest a combined $200 million over five years in community investments to support these efforts.
