Jake, a graduating senior at Kennesaw State University, is earning his Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Criminology—a remarkable milestone for any student, but especially meaningful for someone who entered Georgia’s foster care system at age 17.

Jake’s early life was marked by profound loss and instability. After losing his mother and later entering foster care due to family conflict, he found hope through the steady guidance of his foster dad, whom he now proudly calls “Pops.” With support, Jake persevered, taking on the challenges of college life while working to make ends meet.

When financial stress threatened to derail his progress, CARE Services at KSU connected Jake to the Fostering Success Act, providing access to housing, transportation, and educational resources. This support lifted the weight off his shoulders and allowed him to focus on his goals. Today, he’s not only a college graduate—he’s preparing to pursue a Master of Public Administration with the dream of launching his own nonprofit to serve incarcerated individuals.

Jake’s story is a testament to what’s possible when Georgia taxpayers redirect their state tax dollars through the Fostering Success Act. This cost-free tax credit empowers former foster youth with essential wraparound services, changing the trajectory of lives across our state.
