Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, February 9th, 2026

ABAC will host the annual Run for the Nurses 5K and half marathon on Saturday, March 14, 2026. Proceeds from the event will directly support the ABAC School of Nursing, Health and Natural Sciences, helping strengthen the next generation of nursing professionals. Participants can register online at link.abac.edu/runforthenurses.

The event invites runners, walkers, alumni, community members and supporters of health care education to participate in a morning of fitness and philanthropy. The 5K and half marathon will take place from 8 to 11 a.m.

The 5K race registration fee is $30, and the half marathon registration fee is $60. These prices are available through Feb. 14, with incremental increases thereafter. Registrants are encouraged to sign up early, and a race shirt is guaranteed to those who register before March 3.

Funds raised through the event benefit ABAC’s nursing students, reinforcing the school’s commitment to developing highly skilled health care professionals. Individuals who are unable to run but still wish to contribute can make a direct donation on the event site.

Supporters are also invited to submit a photo of their favorite nurse to [email protected] for inclusion on the event’s Wall of Honor, a cherished tribute recognizing the dedication of nurses in the community.

Run for the Nurses continues to expand its positive impact each year, uniting the campus and region around ABAC’s longstanding mission of academic excellence and community service. The run has become a signature health‑focused event that celebrates nursing, encourages wellness and helps future health care professionals thrive.

The Run for the Nurses is in memory of Lisa Purvis Allison. Allison was known for her caring and compassionate nature, which exemplifies the nursing program at ABAC. She finished the program despite being diagnosed with colon cancer, losing her battle shortly after graduation. Run for the Nurses and an endowment in Allison’s honor help serve current students and encourage them to follow her incredible example.

“The Run for the Nurses directly supports student scholarships, clinical resources, educational materials, professional development opportunities and general program enhancements,” said Sue Roach, lecturer in nursing. “These contributions make a meaningful impact on our students and help us continue to uphold the high standards of the program in Lisa’s memory.”
