Just as the new academic year which opened on Wednesday brings new faces to the student body at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, it also signals a time for new faces in classroom instruction.

Dr. Jerry Baker, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, announced 19 new faculty appointments at the recent fall conference.  He said the new faces include Matthew Aderholt, Dr. J. Matthew Carroll, Gentry Cater, Dr. Katheryn Cerny, Dr. Corey Clark, Cayla Couvillon, Dr. Ryan Currie, Dr. Benjamin Gahagen, Dr. Bizhen Hu, Dr. Bal Khatiwada, Dr. Janet Koposko, Dr. Adrian Israel Martinez-Franco, Dr. Michael Maw, Dr. Morgan McConico-Lewis, Dr. Sallie McHugh, Dr. Andrew McIntosh, Dr. Alex McLemore, Dr. Allison O’Leary, and Dr. Xia Zhou.

Aderholt, a biology lab instructor, received his B.S. in biology and his M.S. in Integrative Biology from Kennesaw State University.  Carroll, assistant professor of wildlife and ecology management, earned his B.S. in biology from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania; his M.S. in biology from the University of Arkansas; and his Ph.D. in Natural Resource Ecology and Management from Oklahoma State University.

Cater will serve as laboratory assistant in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.  She received her A.S.N. in nursing from ABAC and her B.S.N. in nursing from South University. Cerny, assistant professor of animal sciences, received her B.S. in Animal Science from California Polytechnic State University–San Luis Obispo and her M.S. in Veterinary Science and Ph.D. in Animal and Food Sciences from the University of Kentucky. Clark, assistant professor of agricultural economics and agribusiness, earned her B.S. in Animal Science and her M.S. in Agricultural Economics from Michigan State University and her Ph.D. in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota.

Couvillon, laboratory assistant in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, earned her A.S.N. and B.S.N. in Nursing from ABAC.  Currie, assistant professor of management, received his B.A. in Economics and History from Emory University, his J.D. in Law from the University of Georgia, his M.B.A. in Business Administration from Troy University, and his Ph.D. in Managerial Sciences from Georgia State University. Gahagen, assistant professor of biology, earned his B.S. in Biology from James Madison University and his Ph.D. in Plant Biology from Ohio University.

Hu joined the ABAC faculty in January as an assistant professor of agronomy.  She received her B.S. in Agronomy from China Agricultural University and both her M.S. and Ph.D. from Ohio State University.   Khatiwada, assistant professor of chemistry, received her B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry from Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, Nepal and her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Oklahoma State University.  Koposko, assistant professor of psychology, earned her B.A. in Psychology from California University of Pennsylvania and her M.S. and Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University.

Maw, who will join the faculty as assistant professor of agronomy in November, received his A.S.  in agriculture from ABAC; his B.S. in Water and Soil Resources and Agricultural Communication from the University of Georgia; and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Plant, Insect and Microbial Sciences from the University of Missouri.

McConico-Lewis began working as a chemistry lab instructor in July.  She earned her A.S. in Chemistry from Pratt Community College, her B.S. in Chemistry from Lee University, and her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Tennessee–Knoxville. McHugh, assistant professor of agriculture education, received her A.S. in Agriculture from ABAC, her B.S. in Agriculture and M.S. in Agricultural Leadership from the University of Georgia, and her Ph.D. in Career and Technical Education and her Ed.S. in Agriscience from Auburn University. McIntosh, lecturer in biology, received his B.S. in Anatomy and Human Biology from the University of Liverpool, his M.S. in Cell and Molecular Systems Biology from the University of Aberdeen, and his Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from the University of Hull–Hull York Medical School.

McLemore will join the ABAC faculty in October as assistant professor of agriculture engineering. He earned his B.S. and M.S. in Biosystems Engineering from the University of Tennessee–Knoxville and his Ph.D. in Biosystems Engineering from Oklahoma State University.  O’Leary, assistant professor of psychology, received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of North Carolina–Greensboro and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology from Ohio State University.  Zhou, assistant professor of business, earned her B.S. in Economics from Henan University of Finance and Economics in China, her M.I.B. in International Business from the University of Wollongong in Australia, and her Ph.D. in Business Administration from Drexel University.

During the fall term, ABAC will also host a Fulbright Scholar in Residence, Dr. Adrian Israel Martinez-Franco. Martinez-Franco earned his M.H.A. in Health Administration and his M.D. in Medicine from National Autonomous University of Mexico.
