The USPOULTRY Foundation recently presented Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College with a $7,000 grant made possible in part by the Don Dalton Student Recruiting Fund.
ABAC Chief Development Officer Deidre Martin said $3,000 of the grant will go toward Destination Ag, a program designed to educate young students, pre-k through 5th grade, on the importance of agriculture in today’s world at ABAC’s Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village.
“We would like to add to our poultry curriculum and learning station a portable chicken coop with live chickens, along with a replica of a commercial broiler house in some capacity,” Museum Director Garrett Boone said.
According to Boone, the funds will help to provide “interactive, industry relevant displays along with appropriate educational panels.”
Martin said the remaining $4,000 from the grant will help fund ABAC’s efforts to educate college students interested in poultry careers.
“A portion of the funds will allow students to attend the College Student Career Program at the International Production and Processing Expo in Atlanta,” Martin said.
