SRTC Experiences Record Enrollment; Outpaces State in Average Growth
Wednesday, February 7th, 2018
Early Monday, January 29, 2018, Southern Regional Technical College announced it had achieved record enrollment for the second consecutive term. For the Spring 2018 Semester the College realized a 9.4% increase in total enrollment with a 10.4% increase in full-time equivalency when compared with Spring 2017 figures. The latter number being the largest across all TCSG institutions. Both of these numbers significantly outpace the state average for each of those categories, which are 2.2% and 0.8%, respectively.
This announcement comes on the heels a 2017 Fall Semester that saw a 9.0% and 10.2% increase in total enrollment and full-time equivalency, respectively, when compared to Fall Semester 2016. All numbers are courtesy of the Technical College System of Georgia data center.
“The administration at Southern Regional is excited to announce a record Spring Semester enrollment at our college. This follows the largest ever enrollment for SRTC this past Fall Semester. This record enrollment is once again attributed to the tireless commitment, dedication, and efforts of our entire faculty and staff in enrolling, advising, teaching, and supporting students. These enrollment increases help create more opportunities for our students as we continue our mission of developing a highly skilled workforce for our growing service delivery area,” commented SRTC President Dr. Craig Wentworth.
SRTC’s total enrollment continues to sit well above the 3,700 student mark and the College continues to maintain one of the largest dual enrollment programs in the state, with around 1,400 students taking advantage of that opportunity. The Dual Enrollment program allows high school students to receive Carnegie unit credit from their respective high school and postsecondary credit hours from the College for the same course. With the recent changes to the program, any student enrolled in a Georgia high school (9th – 12th grade) that meets the dual enrollment and admission requirements of the College is eligible to participate in the program.
SRTC anticipates increases across the board – in dual enrollment, credit enrollment, adult education, and non-credit enrollment – when the College officially assumes operation of the technical programs housed in Bainbridge on July 1, 2018. Pending SACS-COC approval SRTC-Bainbridge will offer 24 technical and industrial programs, SRTC-Midtown Center will offer adult education and cosmetology, SRTC-Blakely will offer 12 technical and industrial programs plus adult education, and SRTC-Donalsonville will offer adult education.
