Deep South Kawasaki recently loaned Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College a Kawasaki Mule through its 11-month loan program. The Mule will be utilized in the ABAC Beef Cattle operation for checking and feeding cattle and tagging calves.
“The School of Agriculture and Natural Resources is very appreciative to West and Patricia Holtzclaw and Deep South Kawasaki for the loan of a Kawasaki Mule side-by-side for use on ABAC’s Beef Unit,” Dr. Mark Kistler, Dean of the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources, said. “This donation will not only enhance the operations of the Beef Unit but also provide hands-on learning experiences for our students.”
Kistler said that ABAC has a working beef unit with 100 head of cattle as a part of the J.G. Woodroof Farm which covers more than 300 acres on the ABAC campus.
“As steadfast supporters of higher education we are pleased to be in a position to assist in ABAC’s Beef Operation,” said West Holtzclaw, a Deep South Kawasaki Dealer Principal, along with his wife, Patricia. “We expect that this Kawasaki Mule will improve the program’s efficiencies while assisting in student education. I believe this is a unique program in that students take such a significant ownership role in both the cattle operation and their own education.”
The ABAC Beef Herd is composed of commercial cow-calf, stocker-yearling, and feedlot cattle. Thanks to the continued commitment and support of local companies such as Deep South Kawasaki, ABAC is better able to prepare students to enter the workforce through applicable knowledge and efficient practices.
“We are always grateful to our industry sponsors for helping us expose our students to the latest in equipment and technology which prepares them for their professional future,” Kistler said.
