Wiregrass Crafters Circle Meets Weekly at ABAC’s Georgia Museum of Agriculture
Thursday, June 21st, 2018
The Wiregrass Crafters Circle invites members of the community to join the fun every Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village for a free educational crafting experience. All ages are welcome, and the only requirement for participation is to bring a personal craft or the desire to learn new crafts and enjoy friendly fellowship.
Jerry Walker, Kaye Morgan, and Marlene Cannon formed the Circle in their homes almost five years ago upon the passing of one of the member’s husbands. They found comfort in their crafts and an even greater comfort in their friendship.
As the Circle grew larger, they established roots at the Museum, volunteering weekly to share their creations, socialize, and teach one another new crafts. They have found comfort during times of loss and celebrated each other’s accomplishments.
“Everyone is like family,” Morgan said. “We encourage each other through difficult times of loss and celebrate during the joyous times of gain.”
No experience is required to attend the sessions. The ladies are eager to teach their specialties and ask that attendees bring the necessary supplies for learning. Crocheting, knitting, basket weaving, and macramé are just a few of the crafts. Attendees are welcome to bring projects they have worked on to share with the others and receive feedback.
“The crafters show and inform our visitors that many of the crafts they are working on today are the same types of crafts that were done during the time of the Historic Village,” Lynn McDonald, Volunteer Coordinator for the Museum, said.
Children can also attend, and the women will work with them to instill a passion for creative thinking at a young age.
