Carl Vinson VA Medical Center to Host a Health and Wellness Fair August 23rd in Tifton
Friday, August 17th, 2018
The Carl Vinson VA Medical Center will host a Health and Wellness Fair August 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tifton Community-Based Outreach Clinic. Veterans are encouraged to learn how to improve their mental and physical wellbeing.
The event will feature speakers from various departments and medical equipment demonstrations for Veterans to get a first-hand look at what their VA offers our American heroes.
“The majority of Veterans aren’t enrolled in VA services,” said Scott Whittington, communications director for the Dublin VA. “We are determined to partner with our communities and organizations like the YMCA to spread the word about our VA. We are focused on providing the best possible health care to our Veterans.”
Participants will experience care-themed games and refreshments as they learn about ways to address their healthcare. The VA is taking a new approach to care for the “whole health” of the veteran – all aspects of healthcare that is available. The VA will offer assistance and information on regular checkups and stress the importance of exercise. Information will include ways to mitigate veteran homelessness, suicide prevention and assistance with weight management.
Dr. Donna Ammons, a nurse manager, wants Veterans to know the VA is there for them.
“The VA will always be here for our Veterans,” she said. “These events are one way we deliver that message to them.”
