Arts And Culture at ABAC Gears Up for New Season

From poetry to rock, jazz to Shakespeare, the 2024-25 slate of arts and culture events at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College aims to capture the rich, broad experiences of art created throughout history.

The ABAC Presents! Performing Arts Series features five events at the college’s Howard Auditorium, showcasing world-class artists. The series begins on October 3 with Young Original, a three-piece acoustic band performing classic American music. That opener is followed by "Voices of Ireland” featuring original Celtic Woman member Chloe Agnew on November 12.

In 2025, Paragon Ragtime Orchestra will perform on February 18, the Atlanta Shakespeare Company’s performance of “Romeo and Juliet” will be featured on March 11, and the season will end with a jazz concert on April 17 featuring trombonist Robert Edwards and jazz vocalist Vanessa Perea performing with the ABAC Jazz Ensemble.

All ABAC Presents! Events begin at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:15 p.m.

The ABAC Tribute series begins with “70s Rock Revival, The Troubadour Project” on October 22 while in 2025, “A1A - The Official and Original Jimmy Buffett Tribute Show” comes to Howard Auditorium on January 21, followed by “The Highwaymen Show: American Outlaw Tribute” on April 3.

ABAC Presents! tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for youth. A subscription to all ABAC Presents! events is $80 for adults and $45 for youth.

ABAC Tribute series tickets vary. A subscription to all Tribute series events is $65.

A subscription to both ABAC Presents! and the ABAC Tribute series events is $145.

The Writers’ Harvest is a new series in the Arts and Culture slate and will feature readings by invited authors. The price of admission, a single canned good or non-perishable item, will benefit the ABAC Food Pantry.

Poet Cody Smith opens this new series on October 28, followed by John B. Edwards on February 10, 2025.

The First Tuesday Concert Series continues on October 1 as ABAC Fine Arts Department head Dr. Jennifer Huang will put on a concert of classical music. She will also perform as a soloist in front of the Georgia College and State University’s string orchestra on November 5.

Cellist Tomoko Fujita and pianist Luba Poliak continue the series in 2025 with a performance on February 4, musicians Maila and David Springfield take the stage on March 4, and “The Songs of Broadway!” closes out the First Tuesday series on April 1.

The Jess Usher Lecture Series has a slate of dynamic presentations featuring ABAC faculty members Tatyana Pashnyak, Dr. David Rhode, Dr. Amy Warren, and Dr. Jeff Newberry.

Several popular annual events are returning as part of the Arts and Culture lineup this season.

An ABAC Christmas returns this year to ring in the holiday season with concerts on December 5-6 in Howard Auditorium beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The annual Cabaret at ABAC fundraiser for the ABAC Fine Arts Department is scheduled for March 14, 2025, and will feature performances of romantic popular music by talented ABAC students, faculty, and community musicians.

The ABAC Jazz Festival, a perennial community favorite, is scheduled for April 17, 2025. High school jazz bands from around the region will gather to perform throughout the day.

The annual ABAC gala “An Evening for ABAC” will be held on Saturday, February 22 as a fundraiser for the Baldwin Scholars scholarship program.
