Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Thursday, October 24th, 2024

Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s First Tuesday concert on November 5 will feature the Georgia College and State University String Orchestra.

“We are pleased to welcome the GCSU string orchestra to our campus,” said Dr. Jennifer Huang, the head of ABAC’s Fine Arts department. “This orchestra’s rich string repertoire will complete a lovely evening of classical music.”

The concert will feature mostly Baroque pieces, including Bach’s Concerto in D minor on harpsichord, which will be performed by Huang. Other selections for this evening of string repertoire include Antonín Dvořák’s “Serenade for Strings in E Major, Op. 22” and Antonio Vivaldi’s “Concerto Alla Rustica for orchestra in G major.”

Twenty-six orchestra students will perform violins, violas, cellos and bass, conducted by GCSU Music faculty Bryan Hall. The purpose of the ensemble is to improve skill and to cover a variety of repertoire fostering students' musical development.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in Howard Auditorium.

Other events in the series include cellist Tomoko Fujita and pianist Luba Poliak on February 4, 2025; musicians Maila and David Springfield take the stage on March 4; and “The Songs of Broadway!” closes out the First Tuesday series on April 1.

The First Tuesday Performing Arts Series, which debuted in 2002, features regional professional artists on the first Tuesday of every month. Concerts are free of charge, no ticket required. For more information, call (229) 391-4943 or email Dr. Huang at [email protected].
