The ABAC Presents! series will feature the Atlanta Shakespeare Company’s production of Romeo and Juliet on Tuesday, March 11.

This timeless tale of star-crossed lovers was one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays during his lifetime. It remains one of the world’s most frequently performed of Shakespearean works. The Atlanta Shakespeare Company will stage an abridged version of the Bard’s romantic tragedy.

“Even though this is an abridged version of Romeo and Juliet, the Atlanta Shakespeare Company, has kept all of the essentials of the most timeless love story in English literature,” said Wayne Jones, Arts Connection director. “We are thrilled for everyone to come out and see this wonderful company put on this excellent production.”

The Atlanta Shakespeare Company has been active since the first run of “As You Like It” in May of 1986. The theater company consists of artists who are dedicated to a pure approach to each work while actively embracing the heart and soul of Elizabethan Theater: the active relationship between actor and audience. ASC was the first American company to perform on the stage of Shakespeare’s historic Globe Theater in London, England.

The ABAC Presents! season will end with a jazz concert on April 17 featuring trombonist Robert Edwards and jazz vocalist Vanessa Perea performing with the ABAC Jazz Ensemble.

All ABAC Presents! events begin at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:15 p.m.

The ABAC Presents! series showcases professional performing artists selected to support ABAC and area students’ study of the arts and to present high-quality arts experiences to the entire community.
