Southwell Medical's Surgery Center in Adel has received significant recognition from the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), earning the designation of a Center of Excellence in four distinct specialties: Orthopedic Surgery, Endoscopy, Minimally Invasive Gynecology, and Minimally Invasive Surgery.

These prestigious designations are granted to healthcare facilities that consistently meet rigorous standards for quality, safety, and patient outcomes in surgical care. Notably, Southwell Medical stands out as the first hospital in Georgia to achieve accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Orthopedic Surgery. Furthermore, it is currently the only facility south of Macon to hold the other three distinctions.

To earn these accreditations, hospitals and their surgical teams undergo a comprehensive evaluation by SRC, a nonprofit organization that assesses surgical facilities globally. This thorough process involves an inspection of various critical aspects, including surgical volume, staff training, facility infrastructure, adherence to standardized protocols, and established patient safety practices.

Leigh McCabe, Operating Room Manager at Southwell Medical, emphasized the collaborative effort behind this achievement, stating, "These accreditations are a reflection of the consistent, high-quality care our team delivers every day. It’s a team effort. Surgeons, nurses, techs, and support staff all contribute to ensuring patients have the best possible outcomes."

In addition to the facility's recognition, several Southwell Medical surgeons have also been individually honored by SRC for their dedication to surgical excellence. Dr. Joe Clifton was named a Master Surgeon in Minimally Invasive Gynecology. Dr. Brook Bearden and Dr. Kevin Collins were recognized as Surgeons of Excellence in Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Eric Ward and Dr. Edward Fricker received the distinction of Surgeons of Excellence in Endoscopy.
