Tim Golden Elected Secretary of State Transportation Board of Georgia

Tim Golden was elected secretary of the State Transportation Board of Georgia at its monthly board meeting on Thursday, August 21. Joining him as newly elected leaders are Jamie Boswell, who was elected as chair; and Dennis McEntire, who was elected as vice chair. The new positions are effective immediately. Board elections are held annually to ensure all regions of the state are represented at the executive leadership level on the board.
Secretary Golden is Georgia's 8th Congressional District (CD 8) representative and was first elected to the board in 2015. CD 8 encompasses Atkinson, Baldwin, Ben Hill, Berrien, Bibb, Bleckley, Brooks, Clinch, Coffee, Colquitt, Cook, Crisp, Dodge, Echols, Houston, Irwin, Jeff Davis, Jones, Lanier, Lowndes, Monroe, Pulaski, Telfair, Tift, Turner, Twiggs, Wilcox, Wilkinson, and Worth Counties. He spent 10 years as a congressional assistant to U.S. Congressman Charles Hatcher, and in 1990, he was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives where he served for eight years. Mr. Golden was then elected to the Georgia State Senate in 1998 where he served for another 16 years before retiring from the Georgia General Assembly in 2014. In 2015, he was elected to his first term on the State Transportation Board of Georgia.
The 14-member State Transportation Board determines policy and governs the Georgia Department of Transportation. Each member is elected by a caucus of Georgia General Assembly members from their specific congressional district. Board members serve staggered, five-year terms.
