The Office of Sponsored Programs at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) is pleased to announce it has received an $11,310 award from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety through the Young Adult Program.

ABAC President Dr. Tracy Brundage said, “Safety is foundational to student success. With support from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, we’re building a generation of graduates who understand that leadership begins with responsibility—whether that’s in the classroom, the workplace, or behind the wheel.”

The grant will support initiatives aimed at reducing impaired driving and promoting safe driving practices. Planned activities include interactive driving safety training for new students, DUI simulation exercises, and periodic seatbelt checks on campus.

“Innovative projects like this are designed with the intent for Georgia and our nation to reach the realistic goal of zero traffic deaths by the middle of this century,” said Allen Poole, Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. “Each life saved on our roads is one less family that will have to live with the pain of losing a loved one whose life was taken from them in a traffic crash that was completely preventable.”

Dr. Alan Kramer, Dean of Students and Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, said he has seen firsthand the program’s impact on ABAC students. “At ABAC, student well-being is at the heart of everything we do. This grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety empowers us to engage students in meaningful learning experiences that promote responsible decision-making and safer driving habits. Think Fast and the Arrive Alive Tour are two examples of interactive educational programs our students really enjoy. Thanks to the hard work of our Residence Life & Housing, ABAC Police, and Student Affairs teams, we have been very successful in this partnership. We’re proud to be part of a statewide effort to prevent tragedies and build a culture of safety on and off campus.”

The grant year for the ABAC Young Adult Program (YA-2026-ABAC-082) will run from Oct. 1, 2025, through Sept. 30, 2026.
