Yesterday afternoon, the City of Tifton was honored to join together with Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College at their Carry the Load event. 

The purpose of the Carry the Load event was to honor military members, veterans, and first responders through walking and community reflection. Many of those participating wore weighted vests or carried weighted packs while walking to further emphasize the event's purpose.

Mayor Julie Smith spoke at the event, honoring the dedication and sacrifices of those who keep us safe. Members of our Tifton Police Department and Tifton Fire Department were there to join in the walk and honor those who have given so much for our freedom. Reese Mahoney, a member of our Urban Forestry Department and a military veteran himself, led the walk by carrying a flag for the event.
