SRTC Students Compete at SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference
Thursday, June 18th, 2026
Four Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) students represented the college on a national stage last month, competing at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta on June 1-5.
The four SRTC SkillsUSA members earned their spots at the national level after placing first at the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference in February. The SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference, held in Atlanta each June, brings together over 19,000 attendees for a week-long celebration of the skilled trades and is held in conjunction with the SkillsUSA Championships, where over 6,500 state champions compete for national titles in over 100 skilled and leadership competitions.
Ethan Fillyaw placed sixth in technical Drafting (Postsecondary Division).
Yudiel Duvergel competed in Electrical Construction Wiring.
Luis Fernandez Gessa competed in Industrial Motor Control.
Denix Hernandez competed in Medical Math.
Yudiel Duvergel and Denix Hernandez were also awarded SkillPoint Certificates. The SkillPoint Certificate is awarded to competitors who meet or exceed the industry-defined “cut score”. This means the competitor's skills are validated and endorsed by industry leaders, corporations, and trade associations.
"Competing at the national level is a tremendous achievement, and these students earned every bit of it," said KaCee Miller, SRTC Campus Director. "The work Ethan, Yudiel, Luis, and Denix put into preparing for nationals speaks to their skill, their character, and the quality of training they receive here at SRTC. We could not be more proud to watch them represent our college on a national stage."
