Coming Soon to Rural Georgia: Thousands more Acres of New Solar Projects

A trio of new renewable energy projects could soon cover thousands more acres of rural Georgia in solar panels, according to filings submitted in recent days to state regional planning authorities.
The proposals come as Georgia seeks to keep up with the growing demand for electricity driven by data centers.
The solar additions were revealed in filings submitted in recent days through the Georgia Department of Community Affairs “Developments of Regional Impact” portal. Projects expected to have significant regional impacts are required to go through the DRI process to help local governments with infrastructure planning, but the agency only began requiring that large solar projects participate last year.
