May the best engine win. The biannual Agricultural Engineering Technology Club’s (AET) Truck and Tractor Pull returns to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) Oct. 1-3.

Since its inception in 1974, the AET Truck and Tractor Pull has grown into one of ABAC’s most popular traditions, with events held each spring and fall. The inaugural event drew more than 10,000 spectators, and the pull continues to be a popular tradition for the ABAC and Tifton community.

Gates open at 5 p.m. each evening, with competition beginning at 7 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 1, is Amateur Night. The event is open to the public and is the perfect opportunity for newcomers to try their hand at truck and tractor pulling for $5 per pull. Tickets are $10, with free admission for children ages 5 and under.

Friday and Saturday are sanctioned by the Southern Pullers Association, with top drivers and powerful machines. Admission is $20 for adults, $10 for ages 6-12, and free for children ages 5 and under. ABAC students, faculty and staff with a valid ABAC ID can attend for just $10. Wristbands serve as tickets and are available for purchase at the entrance gate.

“The AET Truck and Tractor Pull is a great opportunity for our community to come out and experience the excitement of agricultural equipment up close,” said Dr. Alex McLemore, an associate professor and AET advisor at ABAC. “From the power and competition of the pull to the family-friendly atmosphere surrounding the event, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. We encourage people of all ages to come out, have some fun and support the AET program and its students.”

The event also provides a professional development opportunity for students in AET.

“The AET Truck and Tractor Pull is an event held on ABAC’s campus that is almost entirely student-coordinated and operated,” said Blake Hester, president of the AET Club. Hester is a senior majoring in agricultural technology management from Waterloo, Ga.

Students organizing the Truck and Tractor Pull gain experience in event planning, budgeting and customer service.
