For more than 25 years, Sandra Mercer has been a dedicated Pink Lady volunteer at Tift Regional Medical Center, sharing her time, compassion, and caring spirit with generations of patients, families, visitors, and staff.  

Throughout her years of service, she has filled many roles, including serving at the Information Desk, where she was often one of the first friendly faces to greet those coming through the hospital doors.

Today, Sandra continues to make a difference each week through her work with the hospital’s Cheer Cart. As she visits patients, she brings more than a cart of cheerful treats and thoughtful items—she brings conversation, encouragement, and a genuine connection. Her weekly visits are a wonderful reminder that sometimes the smallest gestures of kindness can brighten someone’s day and make a hospital stay feel a little more personal.

In celebration of her recent birthday, Sandra’s family honored her remarkable years of service by donating a commemorative brick in her name. Located in the Tift Regional Medical Center courtyard, the brick serves as a lasting tribute to the more than 25 years she has spent giving back to her community. Surrounded by her fellow Pink Lady and Red Coat volunteers, she celebrated this special gift alongside the friends who have shared countless hours of service, laughter, and memories with her.

“Sandra's story is a beautiful example of what makes hospital volunteering so special,” said Emily LaMontagne, Southwell's Director of Volunteer Services. “Over the years, Sandra has not only touched the lives of the people she serves—she has become part of a community of volunteers who share a common purpose and form friendships along the way. Her continued commitment demonstrates that there is always an opportunity to make a difference, and that every hour given has the potential to bring comfort and joy to someone else.”
