Letter from Superintendent Woods to Georgia Families

Dear Georgia families,

Every child deserves to know that the people at home and at school are working together to help them succeed. When families and educators communicate, listen, and support one another, they create a foundation that helps students learn with confidence and look toward the future with hope.

As we celebrate Family Engagement Month this November, I want to thank you for the many ways you support your child's education. From asking about their day to helping them work through a challenge, your involvement matters. You bring knowledge of your child's strengths, interests, and needs that help educators better understand and support them.

At the Georgia Department of Education, we believe families are essential partners in preparing all students for life. Strong partnerships begin with trust, grow through open communication, and are strengthened when families feel welcomed, heard, and valued in their school communities.

This month, I encourage you to find meaningful ways to stay connected. Read together, talk about what your child is learning, reach out to a teacher, or participate in a school activity. Ask what excites your child, what challenges them, and how you can help. Family engagement can happen in everyday moments, and those moments can have a lasting impact.

I also encourage our schools and educators to continue making space for families to share their perspectives, ask questions, and contribute. Working together means learning from one another and recognizing the important role each of us plays in a child's success.

Thank you for the care, encouragement, and commitment you bring to your child's education. Together, we can help every Georgia student feel supported, discover their strengths, and prepare for the opportunities ahead.
